600 prisoners to be released on Gandhi's Jayanti

The government has decided to release about 600 prisoners on October 2 as part of Mahatma Gandhi's 150th Jayanti. The Union Home Ministry is preparing the final list with the coordination of the States and UTs.

So far, 1,424 prisoners have been released in two installments as part of last year's special amnesty scheme. The government will release hundreds of prisoners in various jails across the country on October 2 to commemorate the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.
