23 senior Congress leaders have written to Sonia Gandhi demanding a comprehensive change in the party. Leaders demand a radical change. The letter also said that the party had not honestly assessed the cause of the defeat in the Lok Sabha elections. The letter was sent by Ghulam Nabi Azad, Anand Sharma, Kapil Sibal and Shashi Tharoor MP.
A new method of selecting leaders must be introduced to lead the party forward. The main demand of the letter is to bring in a new electoral system for the full-time leaders in the AICC and PCC offices, the body that ensures an independent electoral system, and a working committee election only in accordance with the party constitution. The letter also suggested that the anti-BJP alliance should be strengthened by re-communicating with those who have left the Congress.
