Descendant of Tipu Sultan Threatens Legal Action Against Political Parties Over Use of His Name for Political Gain
The 7th generation descendant of Tipu Sultan, Sahabzada Mansoor Ali, has warned political parties of legal action against the constant use of Tipu Sultan's name in their political mudslinging. Ahead of Karnataka polls, both the Congress and BJP have been using the late monarch's name to attack each other, which has offended Tipu Sultan's family and followers. Mansoor Ali announced that they have consulted with their legal team and decided to file a defamation case and injunction against the use of Tipu Sultan's name for political gain by any political party. He stated that both the BJP and the Congress have only polarized voters by using Tipu Sultan's name and have not taken any positive steps to honor his legacy.
Tipu Sultan was a ruler of the Kingdom of Mysore in South India during
the late 18th century. He was born in 1750 as the eldest son of Sultan
Hyder Ali of Mysore and ruled the kingdom from 1782 until his death in
1799. Tipu Sultan is known for his military campaigns against the
British East India Company, which he considered a threat to his
kingdom's independence. He is also credited with several military
innovations, including the use of rockets in warfare. Tipu Sultan was a
controversial figure, with some regarding him as a heroic defender of
Indian sovereignty, while others view him as a religious bigot who
persecuted Hindus and Christians.
