From February 25, Kerala will be hosting a four-day global Responsible Tourism (RT) summit, highlighting the State’s achievements in developing a sustainable tourism model that has gained international acclaim over the last 15 years. The event will take place in Kumarakom, a town located on the Vembanad lake and the rim of the State rice bowl Kuttanad, selected for its rustic charm, heritage, and lifestyle. According to a release by Kerala Tourism, Kumarakom has played a crucial role in the Kerala model of RT gaining global recognition. The summit will serve as a platform to discuss the creation of sustainable and experiential tourism products and packages in the State in collaboration with various agencies in India and abroad to attract more tourists to Kerala. The event will conclude with the adoption of the revamped ‘Kerala RT Declaration’ on February 27, followed by a field visit on the next day, as stated by Tourism Minister P.A. Mohamed Riyas.

The summit will take place for four days in Kumarakom, located on the Vembanad lake, which has played a crucial role in Kerala’s RT model achieving international acclaim. The summit will feature around 60 experts who will speak on more than 12 topics and 15 international speakers along with 20 more foreign speakers will share their insights through a virtual platform. The summit will conclude on February 27 with the adoption of the revamped ‘Kerala RT Declaration’ followed by a field visit the next day. The conclave is expected to witness around 200 attendees from across the country and will serve as a platform for brainstorming sustainable and experiential tourism products and packages in partnership with various agencies in India and abroad to attract more tourists to Kerala.
