Legal Notice and Demand for Damages: Ugly Spat between Senior Women Officers in Karnataka Administration
The Karnataka administration is in shock due to a contentious dispute between two senior women officers, D Roopa (IPS) and Rohini Sindhuri (IAS), and the Basavaraj Bommai government is struggling to respond. The public argument began when IPS officer Roopa Moudgil accused IAS officer Rohini Sindhuri of sending compromising photos to senior IAS officials and even sharing them on social media. IAS officer Rohini Sindhuri has sent a legal notice to IPS officer D Roopa demanding an "unconditional apology in writing" as well as Rs 1 crore in damages "for the loss of reputation and mental agony" caused by Roopa's comments on Facebook. This notice was issued in response to Roopa's 19 allegations against Rohini, which include charges of corruption. If Roopa does not meet these conditions, Rohini stated that court proceedings will be initiated.
Roopa alleged that Rohini had violated service conduct rules by sending her photos to senior IAS officers. According to the notice, "The comments/statements/allegations made by you has put our client and her family members to untold mental agony. It has ruined her image in professional, personal and social life. She is spending sleepless nights as her moral uprightness, character and conduct have become the topic of discussion amongst one and all known to her and in the administrative/bureaucratic circle in particular."
