Spotify Launches AI-Powered 'DJ' Feature for Improved Personalization on Music Streaming Platform

Spotify has introduced a novel AI-based offering called DJ that enhances personalisation capabilities on their music streaming platform. OpenAI, the entity that created ChatGPT, Dall.E, and Microsoft’s copilot for Bing, developed the service.

At present, the DJ feature is in beta and can generate daily mixes, wrapped, and translate exclusively curated tracks. Presently, the feature is accessible solely through smartphones (Android and iOS), and its availability is limited to premium users in the US and Canada.

To access the AI-powered DJ on Spotify, ensure that you have downloaded the most recent version of the app from either the Google Play Store or Apple App Store. Afterward, launch the application, click on the Music tab, and if the feature is available in your location, you will find the new DJ service located at the top of your screen.

As previously mentioned, the DJ feature on Spotify has the capability to produce a personalized playlist, deliver announcements in its own voice, and provide commentary on tracks and playlists. Users can also shuffle the playlist by selecting the DJ icon.

Spotify's new DJ service is powered by generative AI technology created by OpenAI, and the company collaborates with music editors to produce playlists across various genres. Additionally, the voice model for DJ was developed in partnership with Xavier "X" Jernigan, the Head of Cultural Partnerships and the first host of Spotify's customized morning show, The Get Up.
