Kerala journalist killed after Drunk IAS officer Sriram Venkataraman’s car rams into his bike




'Drunk' IAS officer Sriram Venkitaraman's car rams into bike, kills journalist K.M. Basheer at the odd hrs of saturday night,  Though police rushed Basheer to the Medical College hospital, he could not be saved. He is survived by wife Jaseela and two children.Venkitaraman has been admitted to a private hospital with a fractured arm.The police added that Venkitaraman was drunk during the time of the accident.

However, it was after much delay that a reluctant police confirmed that the car was indeed driven by the IAS officer. The police have also invited criticism for the manner in which they initially handled the case.

Human Rights Commission of India (IHS) today said that IAS officer Shriram Venkitaraman was driving drunk  . Human Rights Commission chief Justice Anthony Dominic has called for the state police chief to immediately intervene in the complaint and doubts that police had attempted to rescue Sriram. The commision has asked city police commissioner along with the state police chief  to  immediately investigate. Both should report within ten hours. The police seem to have made a serious mistake. According to the complaint received by the Human Rights Commission, there were eyewitnesses that the woman who was with an IAS officer who was also drunk.

The complaint alleges that an attempt was made to rescue the top official through the intervention of the  police. The complaint was filed by Salim Madavoor, national president of Lok Tantrik Yuva Janata Dal.
