On Saturday, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz commenced a two-day visit to India with an aim to strengthen overall bilateral relations, including trade and investment, new technologies, and clean energy. German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, who assumed office in December 2021 after Angela Merkel's 16-year tenure as the head of the German government, is on his first visit to India. During his two-day trip, Scholz is scheduled to hold extensive discussions with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi at around 11.45am, covering a range of issues, including the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine, bilateral trade, defence, climate change, clean energy, and new technologies. The talks are also expected to address the overall situation in the Indo-Pacific region, which has seen a rise in Chinese assertiveness in recent years. Notably, Modi and Scholz held bilateral discussions on the sidelines of the G20 summit in Bali on November 16 last year.
