Punjab News : Hardline Khalistani Separatist Amrit Pal Singh Tries to Establish Himself as Bhindranwale 2.0
Amrit Pal Singh, the self-styled leader of the separatist Khalistani pressure group 'Waris Punjab De', is attempting to establish himself as a new version of Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale, according to reports. Singh's style of turban, clothing, and other symbols of Sikhism make him appear to be a reincarnation of Bhindranwale, who was killed in 1984 during Operation Blue Star, a conflict between the Indian army and Khalistani terrorists. Singh's new incarnation moves with an army of heavily armed Nihang Sikhs who shower flower petals on him and sing provocative songs. He recently entered the Darbar Sahib, the Golden Temple complex, with his heavily-armed group of people called 'Faujaan'.
On Wednesday, Singh launched a month-long march called 'Panthik Vaheer' to promote Sikhism. However, India's security agencies are monitoring the activities of this hardline separatist Sikh, who is allegedly pursuing his separatist agenda under the guise of religion and the eradication of drug addiction. While addressing his supporters, Singh openly advocates for the creation of a separate homeland, Khalistan.
Singh accuses the government of Delhi of orchestrating the Sikh genocide and considers Sikhs to be slaves under the rule of a Hindu government. He also claims that there are different sets of laws for Sikhs and others. Singh's followers brandish firearms and sharp weapons, including swords, and have been accused of issuing threats to people. One of his followers, Bhagwant Singh, has been booked by the Moga Police for flaunting weapons on social media, despite not having a license to own a weapon. Meanwhile, the Ludhiana Police has charged another radical, Amrit Pal Singh Mehron, who is reportedly close to Amrit Pal Singh, for threatening Punjab Congress chief Amrinder Singh Raja Warring.
Overall, Singh's activities and statements have put him and his followers under scrutiny from Indian security agencies and authorities.
