Maharashtra most corrupt, Delhi tops in crimes: NCRB

BENGALURU: According to Economic times report, Bengaluru has secured several dubious distinctions in terms of crimes committed among metropolitan cities, going by the National Crime Records Bureau-2016 data. It has also pipped Mumbai in the crime chart.

Hindustan times reported that , Maharashtra has earned itself the dubious distinction of being the “most corrupt state” for the third year in a row. The National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) data, which was released on Thursday, revealed that there were 1,016 cases of corruption registered in 2016 in the state, while Odisha was second on the list with 569 cases. Of the total corruption cases in India, 22.9% were from Maharashtra.

However, the only positive bit was that the cases declined from 1,279 in 2015 and 1,316 in 2014.

The Competition Commission of India has imposed a ₹52 crore fine on the country’s cricket board

The Competition Commission of India has imposed a ₹52 crore fine on the country’s cricket board for monopolising league cricket. Sony Pictures Network held IPL’s broadcast rights until early this year. The fine amount is about 4.5% of the BCCI’s annual turnover for the last three years. The BCCI may approach the courts to challenge the antitrust watchdog’s order, DNA reports.

Customer service executives could be poring over your last Facebook post or Twitter update

Companies are training their agents on social media profiling techniques to provide support according to their customers’ mood, Times of India reports. And somebody with an irate status update would get priority over others. Another firm in the space — Germin8 — tracks about 10,000 monthly conversations for brands such as Airtel, Cadburys and Godrej.

The makers of film Padmavati have announced they are extending the release date of their controversial film. The film was scheduled to release on 1 December. Leonardo da Vinci painting sells for $450m at auction, smashing records

Salvator Mundi is a painting of Christ as Salvator Mundi (Savior of the World), which has been attributed by some scholars as a work by Leonardo da Vinci since its rediscovery in 2005. This attribution has been disputed by other specialists . Long thought lost, it was restored and then exhibited in 2011. The painting shows Christ, in Renaissance dress, giving a benediction with his raised right hand and crossed fingers while holding a crystal sphere in his left hand.

Salvator Mundi, the long-lost Leonardo da Vinci painting of Jesus Christ commissioned by King Louis XII of France more than 500 years ago, has sold at Christie’s in New York for $450.3m, including auction house premium, shattering the world record for any work of art sold at auction

The sale generated a sustained 20 minutes of tense telephone bidding as the auctioneer Jussi Pylkkänen juggled rival suitors before a packed crowd of excited onlookers in the salesroom. At one point, Pylkkänen remarked: “Historic moment, …

Ivanka Trump’s impending visit to India prompts roundup of beggars

As per the schedule, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will host a dinner for Ivanka at Falaknuma palace on November 28 and chief minister K Chandrashekar Rao will host a dinner for the GES delegates at Golconda Fort on November 29.

As Ivanka Trump’s visit to India nears, the south Indian city of Hyderabad is getting ready to dazzle its foreign guests — by locking its homeless and destitute people out of sight in prison rehabilitation centers.

Nearly 400 beggars were picked up from city streets and trucked away to one such center at the Chanchalguda jail, the Indian Express reported.

As the city scrubs up to impress its foreign guests, police plan to clear away 6,000 beggars and have banned begging entirely in the city until the first week of January.

The beggars are “employing children and handicapped persons to seek alms at the main junctions of roads,” said the ban order. “Such acts are causing annoyance and awkwardness.”

The teen, studying for the Indian Police Service (IPS), was assaulted on October 31 near the Habibganj Railway Station, in the busiest part of the Madhya Pradesh capital, by four men who kept taking tea and gutka (tobacco) breaks. She was grabbed as she headed to the station to take a train home after coaching classes. Ten police officers were suspended and three transferred for an 11-hour delay in her complaint being filed; one officer had dismissed her account as a "filmy story".
