Former IPS officer K Annamalai, who was the Bengaluru South deputy police commissioner before announcing a surprise exit from the service last year, joined BJP’s Tamil Nadu unit on Tuesday.
His plunge into politics was formalised at the BJP headquarters in Delhi in the presence of party general secretary P Muralidhar Rao and Tamil Nadu BJP president L Murugan. Later, he met national BJP president JP Nadda.

As the Chikkamagaluru SP, he had reportedly developed contacts with local politicians, including legislator CT Ravi, who is now the Karnataka tourism minister. Ravi was in charge of Tamil Nadu during the 2016 assembly and 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
