Increasing Number of Bihari Laborers Migrating to Tamil Nadu for Work Amid Alleged Violence and Job Market Debate
Bihar and Jharkhand laborers traditionally sought employment in regions such as Delhi, Mumbai, and Punjab, due to language barriers and challenging weather conditions in Tamil Nadu. However, in recent years, an increasing number of laborers from these states have been migrating to Tamil Nadu in search of work. Unfortunately, incidents of alleged violence against Bihari laborers in Tamil Nadu have been making headlines, with both the Tamil Nadu and Bihar police dismissing these reports as unfounded rumors. Several videos purporting to show attacks on Bihari laborers have been deemed false and misleading, with the Bihar Police Economic Offenses Wing even taking legal action against those who shared such videos on social media. One individual has already been arrested in connection with these videos in Jamui, Bihar. The Tirupur district of Tamil Nadu, known for its textile industry, has seen a significant influx of migrant laborers from western Tamil Nadu and Coimbatore in recent years. However, following a violent clash between migrant laborers and locals in Tiruppur, questions have arisen about whether Tamil residents are being unfairly excluded from employment opportunities due to migrant laborers.
