A very severe cyclonic storm, Biparjoy, is likely to hit the Gujarat coast near Jakhau port in Kutch district on Wednesday evening, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said.
The storm is expected to cross the coast with a wind speed of 150-160 kmph, gusting to 180 kmph, the IMD said.
The IMD has issued a red alert for Kutch district and an orange alert for Saurashtra and south Gujarat.
The storm is likely to cause heavy to very heavy rainfall in Kutch, Saurashtra, and south Gujarat.
The IMD has advised fishermen not to venture into the sea till July 15.
