The current Chief Secretary of Madhya Pradesh is Iqbal Singh Bains, who was appointed on March 24, 2020 by Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan. He was set to retire on December 1, 2022, but he has been given a six-month extension and will continue in his post till Nov 30, 2023. The extension came on the recommendation of the Chief Minister, who wanted his trusted officer to lead the proceedings in the crucial time before the Assembly elections in November 2023

However, some names that were speculated as the possible contenders are Anurag Jain and Mohammad Suleman both 1989 batch IAS officers.
