Former Mumbai Mayor Kishori Pednekar Summoned by ED for Second Round of Questioning in BMC Body Bag Procurement Scam Investigation
Enforcement Directorate (ED) has called for Shiv Sena (UBT) leader and former Mumbai mayor Kishori Pednekar to appear on January 25 regarding an investigation into a suspected scam related to the procurement of body bags by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation during the COVID-19 pandemic, according to an official statement on Friday. This marks the second instance of the investigative agency summoning Pednekar for interrogation; she had previously cooperated in November last year, as per the official.
The ED aims to inquire into Pednekar's alleged involvement in money laundering concerning the acquisition of body bags for individuals who succumbed to COVID-19, the official explained.
Pednekar, along with two BMC officials, was charged by the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Mumbai police following a complaint filed by Bharatiya Janata Party leader Kirit Somaiya. The complaint raised concerns about irregularities in the procurement of body bags.
The ED's investigation is rooted in the initial information provided in the FIR filed by the EOW.
