Nawaz Sharif: A newspaper to read in prison and two channels to watch

Former Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has been given the facilities of 'B' class in Rawalpindi's Adiala jail, but he is not being given any minor amenities that he wants. . After conviction in the corruption case, Nawaz Sharif has complained to those few close people who had met him in the past.

Nawaz Sharif's daughter Maryam Nawaz and son-in-law Captain Mohammad Mohammed Safder have been kept in a single jail but they have no permission to give each other a message.

An Adiala prison official told the agencies on condition of anonymity that Nawaz Sharif has asked for some documents to write to prison officials, but prison officials have refused to provide the material.
According to officials, two officers of the Deputy Superintendent level have also met Nawaz Sharif in this regard and have said that despite their privilege, they can not be given paper and pen.

Nawaz Sharif has left a power vacuum at the top of the nuclear-armed country

Islamabad: In Pakistan’s 70 years of existence, not one prime minister has served a full five-year term. They’ve been fired by governor-generals and army chiefs and judges. So it was always fruitless. The ousting of Pakistan's Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has left a power vacuum at the top of the nuclear-armed country, yet experts say that in the long run it is unlikely to be destabilising.

Sharif's disqualification Friday by the Supreme Court over corruption allegations denies him the chance of becoming the country's first prime minister to complete a full five-year term.

Yet despite the country's history of military rule, power will likely remain within the hands of a civilian government -- and probably that of Sharif's eponymous Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz Party, analysts say.
