India announced the withdrawal of Most Favoured Nation status for Pakistan.

The move followed a cabinet meeting during which Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi was briefed on a recent attack on Indian security forces in occupied Kashmir, in which 44 paramilitary soldierswere killed, Indian media reported. Indian Finance Minister Arun Jaitley in a press briefing said that Modi's cabinet had decided to initiate steps to ensure complete diplomatic isolation of Pakistan. "The MFN status that had been granted to Pakistan stands withdrawn," he added. In the World Trade Organization (WTO), this status means non-discrimination — treating virtually everyone equally. "Each member treats all the other members equally as 'most-favoured' trading partners. If a country improves the benefits that it gives to one trading partner, it has to give the same “best” treatment to all the other WTO members so that they all remain 'most-favoured'," explains the WTO website.
"The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) will initiate all possibl…

Mulayam Singh wants Modi as PM

Samajwadi Party patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav, in a jaw-dropping departure from the opposition chorus and his own party line, said he "prayed" for Prime Minister Narendra Modi's return to power, during speeches to mark the last sitting of the current Lok Sabha today before the national election. His supporters swore it was all in humour, but the comment still raised eyebrows.

"I want to congratulate the PM that he tried to move ahead taking everyone along. I hope all members to win and return, and you (PM Modi) become prime minister again," Mulayam Singh, 79, said in the Lok Sabha, sending the house into guffaws. The camera panned to his immediate neighbor, Congress leader Sonia Gandhi, looking surprised, and to PM Modi, chuckling and thumping his desk. The prime minister also folded his hands.

The Yadav father and son have not been on the best of terms over the past two years, during which Akhilesh, 45, staged a coup and took over control of the party founded…

The word Nandi means joyous. In real life the bull leads a life as a victim of beating, torture, starvation and early death, writes Smt. Maneka Sanjay Gandhi

I feel so sorry for the magnificent animal that is the bull. I was at a banking mela organised by the local administration in Alwar. A bull wandered in and walked about harmlessly. Almost every stall keeper – selling/displaying nothing but banking information - hit him. Passers-by hit him. Security guards hit him. His only reaction was to try and dodge the slap or lathi which, given its size, was impossible. Finally, he left, bruised and sore.
Bulls go to sabzi mandis to eat the thrown away vegetables/leaves and fruit. So many are attacked with acid that it is difficult to find a bull that doesn’t have acid burns. In Gorakhpur, the city named after Gau Raksha, the municipal administration catches them regularly, puts them into pounds and refuses to feed them. They die within the week, spending most of it lying down as they have no energy left. No gaushalas take bulls, so they roam the streets and are beaten every day. Many are rounded up at night and sold to illegal butchers. Some a…

Kartik Aaryan and Sara Ali Khan's brewing romance

Much has been said and written about Bollywood heartthrob Kartik Aaryan and Sara Ali Khan's brewing romance but while Sara has often expressed that she has a crush on Kartik, the Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety actor has relatively remained tight-lipped and shy about the romance rumours.

But on the latest episode of Koffee With Karan, the host and filmmaker-producer echoed the sentiments of all Bollywood fans when he asked for a follow-up on what's happening between the two, given that both have publicly admitted that they want to go on a date with each other and Ranveer Singh has also played cupid for the two. And it's Kartik's response that will surely leave you in splits!

Do you know what kids view online?

Many Indian kids have been given a free hand on the internet. 6 in 10 parents don’t monitor what their children view online, classifieds site OLX found in a survey of 26,000 users. A Comparitech study shows Indian kids are the most cyberbullied in the world. About 8 in 10 parents helped create social media profiles for children, Assocham said in a 2014 survey. People tend to neglect online safety: 31% of the OLX survey respondents don’t remember when their profile passwords were last changed.

It is important to change the password regularly to avoid any potential hacking and to protect your personal information. It is shocking to know that about “65% of the people use the same password across multiple sites and 51% had a favorite password that they stuck with for most things”, but I only hope that they have a strong password which makes it difficult to hackers to crack it. To add on Google’s recommendations for a password protection besides the security checkup, enable auto-updates, pa…

Karnataka engg seats may cost more

Engineering aspirants may have to shell out more for securing a seat in a Karnataka-based college. That’s because the state’s private colleges are seeking a fee hike of at least 10% from the next academic year, saying they are under pressure to hike staff wages. But teachers contest the claim – according to them, few colleges raised salaries last year and some even downsized staff despite an 8% fee hike. Experts feel an increase would be unlawful since the fee structure fixed in 2018-19 was for three years. The challenge for engineering colleges is a declining student base, as a result of which they are unable to fill their seats. They think that raising fees will help them remain profitable and sustainable when they should be looking closely at why their graduates are no longer employable, and should they do more to revamp their courses instead of the fees . Engineering colleges have lost their relevancy in the current environment with IT services jobs expected to shrink in the comin…

The only Indian city with safe air

A month after the Centre launched the National Clean Air Programme, only one Indian city – Patiala – has safe air, IndiaSpend reports, citing a daily pollution tracker. Just 10 other cities out of the 74 assessed have breathable air even as the usual suspects Ghaziabad and Varanasi languish at the bottom. India is home to 14 of the world’s most polluted cities, according to a WHO study. The clean air initiative aims to cut PM2.5 and PM10 concentration by 20-30% by 2024.

Wonder why we still are not taking measures and steps towards contributing to bring down the pollution. Is it because ?
1. Safety - Shared services  2. Public Transportation : Last mile connectivity issues  3. Flexible time : Don't have to depend on others time.  4. Pollution from car is minimum so don't have to bother !
- What do you think is major cause for people not making efforts towards bringing down Air Quality Index to acceptable levels ?
- How can Corporates in and surrounding areas of Delhi take st…

Sheela was the right-hand woman of self-pronounced Indian guru Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh, aka Osho, who was the leader of the Rajneeshees, a sex-positive cult in rural Oregon in the early 1980s. The stateside arrival of the Rajneeshees rocked the neighboring town of Antelope (population: 40), the state of Oregon, and eventually the entire country, with news coverage digging into the cult's criminal activity, poisonings, and mor…

Common myths about animal behavior , writes Smt. Maneka Sanjay Gandhi

Myth: Mother birds will reject their babies if they have been touched by humans.

Truth: Most birds have a poorly developed sense of smell and will not notice a human smell. But if you pick up the chicks in the nest, she will be close by watching and she may get alarmed at the human disturbance and abandon her chicks.

Myth: Fish only grow to the size of their tank so you can put in as many as you like.

Truth: Fish will grow to the size that their genetics are programmed to let them. However, they will stunt and become unhealthy and suffer if the tank is too small.

Myth: Rattlesnakes rattle before they attack.

Truth: Rattlesnakes don’t give a warning before they bite. They rattle when they are frightened and need to let you know about their presence.

Myth: Ostriches bury their heads in the sand.

Truth: As oxygen-breathers they would die if they did so. But they dig holes in the ground and put their eggs there and every few hours they turn the eggs so that they get the warmth of the sun evenly.…
