Greece Will Shut Banks in Fallout From Debt Crisis

Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras announced Sunday night that Greece’s banks would be closed as of Monday, as the fallout from ruptured debt negotiations with the nation’s creditors began inflicting pain on ordinary people while raising alarm in Washington, Brussels and Berlin.

The emergency measures escalated the confused and unpredictable state of a crisis that some analysts say could ripple through global financial markets and undercut European unity. Most Asian markets opened lower on Monday.

With so much at stake, leaders in other capitals encouraged a continued search for a way to prevent Greece from being forced out of Europe’s currency union. Greece owes a large debt payment by the end of Tuesday, and has scheduled a referendum for next Sunday on whether to accept the terms of an offer from its creditors to release bailout aid it needs to meet its financial obligations.

Vasundhara in a bigger trouble as Lalit Row intensifies

The LalitGate has taken a major turn now, with Rajasthan chief minister Vasundhara Raje on Thursday admitting to the BJP leaders that she indeed signed an affidavit to back former IPL boss Lalit Modi's application for resident status in UK, which was exposed on Wednesday.

Raje told BJP members that "she signed documents as a friend of Lalit Modi.”

The document, purportedly signed by Raje in 2011, and filed by Modi's immigration attorney Ghersons with the UK authorities endorsed Modi's claim that he faced political persecution in India. Hence, he deserved to be given resident status. Raje said she was making the statement on the condition that it wouldn't be known to Indian authorities.

First Google turned links into money. Now Facebook is turning likes into money.

First Google turned links into money. Now Facebook is turning likes into money.
To flesh that out: A decade ago, Google found a way to profit from the preferences each of us expressed as we coded links on every home page and blog post we published. Today, Facebook is aiming to profit from the preferences each of us express as we click “like” buttons and peruse the activity streams that Facebook assembles from that activity. Facebook now transmutes personal messages into advertisements, and lets companies and individuals pay to highlight their posts on personal pages. Procter & Gamble can pay to tell us about its toothpaste; you and I can tell each other about our lives and loves. And each message has a price tag.

In the wake of Facebook’s controversial public stock offering, the world is finally waking up to the fact that Mark Zuckerberg’s connection machine is a company like any other — one that must now deliver growth and profits each quarter to a restless market, or see the mo…

St Stephen's Principal Valson Thampu on Sex Harassment Claim by Student

A chemistry student at Delhi University has accused an assistant professor at St Stephen's College of sexual harassment and alleged that Principal Valson Thampu tried to protect him. This is Rev Thampu's response.
Bad news for those who want to revel at the expense of the College.

To begin with - I would like to clarity that the complainant is not a student of St Stephen's College. She's a registered research student of Delhi University. Her research guide happens to be a faculty member at Stephen's. As per regulations of the college, research students who come to labs are required to sign an attendance register which the complainant utterly refused to do.

I give below the chronology of events, for facts do not lie.

(1) 10 December 2014.  The complainant meets the Principal with the grievance that Dr. Satish Kumar, her research guide, subjected her to sexual harassment in 2013.  She complains further that Dr. Kumar was not taking any interest in her research work. …

Review: Any Body Can Dance 2

Cast: Varun Dhawan, Shraddha Kapoor, Prabhudheva, Lauren Gottlieb

Direction: Remo D’Souza

Rating: **1/2

‘ABCD 2’ is definitely bigger, but is it better than its prequel?

Maybe not.

Yes, it is a dance film but unlike in a dance reality show or a dance DVD, in a film we need the semblance of a plot. We cannot move from one of piece of choreography to the other with an incongruous narrative. Except the dance sequences, every other element in this film seems like an afterthought.

‘ABCD’ might have been made on a tighter budget and with nondescript actors but there was a clear plot trajectory holding the motley group together. ‘ABCD 2’ has roped in two bankable stars – Varun Dhawan and Shraddha Kapoor but it just fails to capitalize on their USP.

The run-time of the film may not give us enough opportunity to finish counting the cuts on Varun’s well-sculpted abs but with the exception of that, there’s nothing about his presence that adds to the film. Any one of the young choreographers could have …
