World Stroke Day: Some simple lifestyle changes to cut the risk

From high blood pressure and excess weight to smoking, alcohol and cholesterol, 80% of strokes — the leading cause of death among women — could be avoided by improving the management of certain risk factors. Ahead of World Stroke Day, October 29, here are some preventative measures that could help reduce the risk of stroke and keep the heart healthy.

Limit salt intake

High blood pressure is the main risk factor for stroke. Sticking to the recommended 5g of salt per day would involve spreading the intake as follows, for example: a serving of bread (1.5g to 2g of salt), a portion of cheese (1g), lunch (1g), dinner (1g). Avoiding eating too many products that contain salt — like ready meals, sauces, soups, cured meats — can already help reduce intake to 6/8 g per day. For example, if your meal includes a slice of ham, bacon or cured sausage, try switching cheese for yogurt or cream cheese.

Quit smoking

Smoking doubles the risk of stroke. To quit for good, specialist medical help — inclu…

Aadhaar-Mobile number linking: Sever Down ?

Since the government’s directive to mobile phone operators that they have to mandate linking of mobile numbers to Aadhaar in February this year, 50 crore subscribers have adhered to the new norms. That still leaves out 60 crore subscribers who are yet to fall in line.

OTP mode will leverage the mobile number which is already registered with the Aadhaar database, and can be used for re-verification of subscribers' other mobile numbers too.

Operators have been directed to facilitate request for the OTP to e-verify the cell phone numbers through websites or mobile apps. However If you visit any of the operator office they says that the server is down. I myself went to the Airtel & Idea office located in Electronic City , Bangalore. Finally after 2-3 visits i was able to verify it.
Nearly 50 crore mobile numbers are already registered in Aadhaar database, and the OTP can be leveraged for re-verification in all of these cases.

It appears to target corporate networks by using methods similar to those used in a June data-wiping attack dubbed "NotPetya," which shut down computers around the world.

Samay India, an NGO, has given advertisement in various news paper about the recruitment drive it is going to have for Bihari youth. The advertisement declares that it will recruit 4770 candidates in various capacities in Bihar.
The mission of this huge recruitment drive is to stop migration of youths of Bihari to other states. That’s a nice attempt.

But, the number of recruitment drive creates an atmosphere of suspicious. As you can see in the advertisement, provided here as an attached image, they are recruiting at various level of administration. However, they are not ready to give the work that these recruits are expected to do.
The mission statement is also vague and used Make in India program to attract gullible candidates.

In all probability, this entire recruitment drive is fake. A fraud is being created preying the insecurity of unemployed Bihari.

Seeing the number of posts, it is expected that around one million Biharis will fill up the form. Now, they are charging Rs.…

Men, take note! Here's why you need to ensure your blood donor wasn't pregnant in the past

New Delhi: As a warning to men going in for blood transfusions, a study has asked them to make sure their blood donor wasn't a woman who was previously pregnant, since that may put them at an increased risk of death.

The researchers showed that the most common cause of transfusion-related mortality is transfusion-related acute lung injury (TRALI), which is associated specifically with transfusions from female donors with a history of pregnancy.

A blood transfusion is a safe, common procedure in which blood is given to you through an intravenous (IV) line in one of your blood vessels. Blood transfusions are done to replace blood lost during surgery or due to a serious injury.

Women who receive blood transfusions from another woman who was pregnant in the past may not be at risk, the researchers observed, in the paper published by the journal JAMA.

"Male patients who received red blood cell transfusions, receipt of a transfusion from an ever-pregnant female donor was associated…

Want to lose weight? Fasting after every two days may help fight obesity

People with busy lifestyle, this one’s for you. Are unhealthy eating habits and sedentary lifestyle taking a toll on your body weight? Then here’s a solution---one day of fasting after every two days may help to fight obesity and other metabolic disorders, suggests a recent study.

According to researchers, an intermittent fasting, up to 16 weeks, without otherwise having to count calories may help fight obesity and other metabolic disorders. According to researchers, such fasting already shows benefits after only six weeks.

Researchers create new pill to treat diabetes and help patients lose weight

A team of researchers has recently created a new pill that can significantly improve the health of people with diabetes and help to shed those extra kilos from their waistlines. The findings indicated that among patients with type 2 diabetes, the drug semaglutide taken by pill resulted in better glycemic control than placebo over 26 weeks.

The results from 632 patients indicated that semaglutide allowed 71 percent of them to shed pounds. It is believed this is the first type 2 diabetes pill to instigate weight loss. Although several type 2 diabetes treatments are available, therapy selection involves consideration of the risks of adverse effects such as hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) or weight gain and complexity of treatment. The oral formulation of semaglutide, a glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonists (a class of drugs used for the treatment of type 2 diabetes), may improve acceptance and adherence for some patients compared with the injectable formulation of GLP-1 recep…

#MeToo : Social media flooded with unexpected hastag !!!

If you are active or remotely active on social media, then you couldn’t have missed the latest trending hashtag! #MeToo
Two simple words became a rallying cry on Twitter to stand against sexual harassment and assault.
On Sunday actress Alyssa Milano tweeted a note that read "Suggested by a friend: If all the women who have been sexually harassed or assaulted wrote "Me too" as a status, we might give people a sense of the magnitude of the problem." "If you've been sexually harassed or assaulted write 'me too' as a reply to this tweet," she wrote. The movement started in response to the Harvey Weinstein scandal and its ensuing fall out.
So, this past weekend, and later on Facebook, women (and some men) around the world responded with two words: “Me too.” They hashtagged posts #MeToo to share their own experiences of sexual harassment and assault, and to de-stigmatize speaking out. Some told their personal stories, some didn’t.

WhatsApp introduces live location sharing

NEW DELHI: WhatsApp will start rolling out the option to share "live location," from Wednesday. With this, a user can choose to let a contact or a group trace their location or movement on a map in real time for a defined window of time. This is different from the current "share location" feature which shares a static location. However, like the static location, live location too will only be visible to the contacts or groups one chooses to share it with.

As of February 2017, WhatsApp had 200 million monthly active users in India, making the country its largest market.

"We were trying to solve the rendezvous problem: when you are meeting up with a group, when you want to share where you are when you are commuting, or when you want to let your loved ones know that you are safe. These are the scenarios where live location is useful," WhatsApp product manager Zafir Khan told TOI over phone on Tuesday.

How can Yogi Adityanath spend tax payers' money for Lord Ram statue, asks Owaisi

The Hyderabad MP and chief of AIMIM, Asaduddin Owaisi on Monday came down heavily on the Uttar Pradesh government and BJP over its plans to install a 100 metres high Lord Ram statue in Ayodhya.

Quoting a recent Supreme Court ruling, Owaisi said that government can't use tax payers money for such religious purposes and it's a violation of the Apex court judgment.

''Justice Deepak Mishra while dealing with the Muslim religious structures demolition case following 2002 Gujarat riots, set aside the Gujarat High Court order allowing state government to release the compensation for damaged religious sites,'' said Asaduddin Owaisi.

What It Means To Have A Phobia Of Friday The 13th

Friday the 13th is considered an unlucky day in Western superstition. It occurs when the 13th day of the month in the Gregorian calendar falls on a Friday, which can be the case at least once every year, and up to three times a year.

We all know Friday the 13th is unlucky, and any bad things that happen today should naturally be blamed on that. There's even a term for fearing Friday the 13th– friggatriskaidekaphobia. (Luckily, sufferers will be too scared to hit the bar tonight, try saying that drunk.)

It is threatening us with bad luck of all stripes (or so we've been made to believe).

Whether or not you believe the hype around this seemingly harmless date, it would appear that quite a few folks do. Research has linked Friday the 13th to decreased traffic and cheaper air fares (due to the fact that so many people decline to leave the house on that ill-fated day).

Some will claim their behavior is due to a phobia — and a mouthful of one at that. Referred to as paraskavedekatria…

Tata Teleservices to sell its wireless mobile business to Bharti Airtel

Ending a 20-year-old saga of poor decisions and mounting losses, Tata Teleservices on Thursday said it will merge its consumer mobile businesses with Bharti Airtel in a cashless deal.

The deal consolidates Airtel’s standing as the country’s No. 1 operator in terms of revenue market share even if the Vodafone-Idea merger were to go through.

It also gives Airtel access to valuable spectrum to thwart the latest challenge in 4G services from Reliance Jio.
Under the deal, Airtel will get access to 178 MHz of additional spectrum and 40 million subscribers. Airtel is not paying anything to Tata Tele other than absorbing a substantial number of the 5,000 employees and paying part of the spectrum liability that the latter owes to the Department of Telecom.

Tata Tele will retain the entire debt on its books in addition to certain assets, including fixed line, broadband, enterprise operations and its stake in tower company Viom Networks.

The car was seen by many as proof of Kejriwal's 'aam aadmi' credentials with the Delhi chief minister refusing to use a government vehicle even after assuming office. Kejriwal was not currently using the car, after having given it up in 2014. The Maruti car was currently being used by Aam Aadmi Party's media coordinator Vandana Singh.

Firecrackers Banned For Diwali In Delhi By Supreme Court

NEW DELHI: Firecrackers will not be sold in Delhi and nearby towns on Diwali this time as the Supreme Court has restored a ban on their sale till November 1, saying it wants to assess the difference to the air quality. Each year, the festival leaves the air in Delhi thick with smoke and pollution.

The court's ban, which responds to petitions flagging deadly pollution in the capital, means that firecrackers will not be sold in Delhi on Diwali next Thursday. Those who had already bought firecrackers can still burst them.

"We are pained to hear that some people are trying to give a communal colour to our order. It is sad," the top court said, rejecting a petition by traders to modify the order on grounds that they had spent lakhs on firecracker stocks that would remain unsold on Diwali.

NEW DELHI: The railway ministry has asked its senior staff to slug it out -- at home and at work -- as part of steps to end the VIP culture in India's national transporter.

In an order on September 28, the ministry said that the instructions and guidelines issued to the railways regarding the protocol to be observed at airports and railway stations during the visit of the Railway Board chairman and other board members stand withdrawn with immediate effect.
